This Nova
Scotia home had minimal impact
on indigenous vegetation. Instead of
excavating a full basement, eight holes
were hand dug to pour Fast-Tube™
concrete columns. |
WHY FAST-TUBE™ IS
GREEN
-
Fast-Tube™ Conserves Natural Resources:
Concrete columns are typically formed using
bulky cardboard tubes. The picture to the right
shows a green project in Tatamagouche, Nova
Scotia which used eight 10" diameter Fast-Tube™
forms about 6' high. All of them were shipped in
a Purolator® pouch across Canada for $12.00. The
equivalent cardboard forms would have taken up
33 cubic feet of space and cost over $200.00 for
shipment. This extraordinary efficiency
conserves our natural resources as follows:
-
Space savings reduce storage costs
throughout the distribution
channel (Fast-Tube™ takes up 1% of the
space of cardboard)
-
Weight savings reduce transportation costs (Fast-Tube™ weights 10% of cardboard)
|
 |
|
Cardboard column
forms, cut from 12' lengths are very
wasteful. |
-
Fast-Tube™ Prevents Waste: Cardboard column forms are sold in short lengths
of 8' or 12'.
When a contractor forms a 9' column, he throws away 3',
wasting money and burdening our landfills.
Fast-Tube™ comes on 120' rolls and is cut to
length on the jobsite,
eliminating waste and reducing the number of
visits the contractor makes to the lumberyard.
|
-
Fast-Tube™ is Recycled as an Underslab
Membrane: Stripped Fast-Tube™ is placed
under the slab as a vapor barrier, preventing
ground moisture from entering the building. Stripped
cardboard pollutes our land fills.

Fast-Tube™
is BuiltGreen™ listed:
Fast-Tube™ is listed under Section VI - Waste
Management of the Canadian Home Builders
BuiltGreen® Program:
"Section 6-4: Minimum 25% (2 points) or 50% (6
points) by weight of waste materials collected from
construction site is diverted from waste stream".
