WHAT ARE ICFs
Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) are concrete forms
made with insulating foam 'panels' and proprietary
tie systems to hold the foam panels in position.
ICFs are green
because they avoid costly recycling of conventional
formwork and provide sustaining value by insulating
the wall for the life of the building. Labor costs
are reduced by the insulation being part of the form
rather than requiring a separate sub trade on the
jobsite to insulate the concrete wall at a later
date.
ICFs provide the following benefits to the building
occupant:
-
Energy Efficiency: The foam on each side
of the form provides exceptionally high R-value,
along with the thermal mass of the concrete
wall.
-
Reduced air infiltration: The poured
concrete wall provides an excellent air barrier,
minimizing air movement across the building
envelope.
-
Superior Sound Insulation: The two layers
of foam along with the concrete wall provide
excellent sound attenuation.
-
Fire Resistance: The concrete structure
provides outstanding fire resistance.
-
Durability: Properly cured concrete lasts
indefinitely.
